Small Self-Administered Schemes (SSAS)
A Small Self Administered Scheme is an occupational scheme that provides members with substantial flexibility and manageability, putting you in control from the investment policy to the underlying assets. A SSAS could be an ideal pension vehicle for a small business to accumulate wealth tax efficiently.
SSAS offer some unique features, such as the ability to grant secured loans to sponsoring employers and to participate in other employer-related investments. A common arrangement is for a SSAS to acquire company premises, and to lease them back to the employer. Employer-related investments enable a company to make tax-deductible payments such as loan interest and rent into a SSAS, simultaneously fulfilling the primary purpose of a SSAS in building up the pension funds of its members for provision of benefits at retirement or following death.
Working with your financial adviser, you can map out your long-term business goals and milestones, then use the Berkeley Burke SSAS effectively to plot your journey. If you already have a SSAS in place we've made the transfer process as simple as possible.
Berkeley Burke has been in the SSAS market for over 40 years. During this time, SSAS has developed into the pension vehicle of choice for directors of family-owned businesses. Grahame Berkeley, Chairman of Berkeley Burke, was one of the pioneers of SSAS after the Finance Act of 1973 allowed controlling directors to participate in schemes similiar to those of their employees, and Berkeley Burke was the first ‘Pensioneer Trustee’ companies for professional SSAS trusteeship in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Apart from the expertise, knowledge, and skill developed over the last 40 years, Berkeley Burke is fortunate to have Zachary Gallagher, Committee member and Chairman for the Association of Member-Directed Pension Schemes (AMPS), working in its Technical team.
